ECO Friendly Material 3D Printer

Hi. I am working on a 3d printer that is made out of renewable and recyclable materials. The frame of the printer is made out of bamboo playwood a very green and quickly renawable resource. The gantry is a corexy kinematic (very fast) and uses chromed steel rods to hold the bamboo frame square. one of the things that i am going to be doing to the frame is laser etching a nature scene on it. I will post the nature scene ideas bellow. i am waiting for my community shop to reopen so i can begin production but there are still some things that i can add in the meantime as i am not 100% done with the design. Let me know what you guys think i will post more details as i finalize them.

Some of the older pictures as i need to update some of the newer ones. you can see that it is based off a few different things but the frame is mainly designed around a large flatrate USPS box that is 12″ x 12″ x 12″. This will allow a theoretical 8.5″ x 8.5″ x 8.5″ theoretical print volume.

Just finished laser cutting panels
also i laser etched the first panel i will post pictures of it tomorrow.

Absolutely. Umm i just tried cutting this bamboo on a 60 watt laser at the shop San Fransisco. It cut like butter but i am not sure about the finish. and the smell. so what i will look into is cutting it with water (waterjet). but i am probably going to make a prototype on the laser as The Shop San Jose is opening near me next week. so i am going to jump on the laser over there.

More on this project coming soon i will keep you updated.

Hi @thegreenengineers

Will you post a link here when you’re ready to sell the 3Dprinter?
Will it be a frame of a functional 3DPrinter?

I looked at that one quite a bit when it came out. very interesting bed travel idea. Yea. mainly a pla centered printer. also quite a bit of the parts in the printer are going to be made out of pla. The parts that don’t undergo to much load.

So my shop should be reopening within this next week (supposibly.
if that is the case i am going to have 3 sheets of bamboo to start building them. i want to release some review units and also maybe some beta testing units.

This is awesome!!! I’m in need of a new printer, my old printer was also a kickstarter, but they went out of Business, it was a New Matter printer. I liked them because they used PLA, I’m hoping thatst the type of  fillament you’ll make available to us as well, i’m looking forward to your launch!

My target price for the kickstarter in late July or early August is $250. I am still thinking whether i should redesign it to be entirely manufactured on a laser or keep it how it is to be manufactured mainly on a router.
bellow i am going to attach a image that is going to be etched into the bamboo of the front side of the machine.

here is a video of me discussing the 3d printer.
please forgive the quality. it is a series i call chore chat where i talk about a project in more detail while i do mindless cleaning or driving or whatever. Enjoy
