Footwear design project

Hello everybody!
I am a shoe design student at London college of Fashion, it is my final year and so final collection! I am interesting in working with somebody who knows more about this than me and can teach and work with me to create some components for the shoes (heels etc) and some jewellery. I would love to be able to build the machine and figure it out but I am on such a tight deadline I could really do with some help and advice. The final show gets quite a lot of press so it could be really good!! All and any advice will be sooo appreciated!!!

Thank you 🙂 xxx

Hi you
I’m wondering how could WE mâke thé move for the textile industry toward an eco friendly production ?
I’m looking for contacts to work with in recycled fabrics m’y job IS to créate and produce artistic piece working with à team and developping

Plastic recycling is important, but recycling plastic into anything isn’t the best way to go. I ask all of you here to consider this moving forward.

God speed and I hope for the best in your endeavors.

@lolliepopsical
If you are simply trying to make solid recycled-plastic pieces (like heels) and ONLY components of the sort, sure I suppose that is okay. Now, if you are also desiring to make fabric materials out of recycled plastic I would highly suggest not too.

For me, incorporating plastic into fabrics and clothing does the opposite of addressing the problem of plastic pollution. More power to you for tryig to find more ways to use recycled plastic, but keep in mind plastic-fibers used in recycled-plastic clothing easily end up in the environment.

@plastikfantastik Ahh yes thank yo! I found one cool complany called smile plastics as well, they are doing the kind of thing I want to. Yes in experimenting and prototyping stage, the best bit but can;t enjoy so much as am running out of time soo fast (left everything last minute as usual haha). Thank you though I will look at this

@chrisv Ahh cool, I want to be really colourful though and use the plastics, I love these kind of materials but obviously recycle them not make new ones!

@soisfranc Hey , this sounds great tell me more, you have a page so I can see the thing you make?

@plastikfantastik
Allbirds is a good brand. I second that.

The problem I have with them is their use of post-consumer recycled polyester.
Plastics, especially polyester, in no way needs to be used in clothing, formally or casually.

@lolliepopsical I wish i could help but we are in r&d phase of producing fibre. What you are refering to is polyester which is made from P.E.T. you can find a sustainable fibre supplier that produces recycled P.E.T to polyester or a version of it. A couple of shoe companies doing this is Thread and Allbirds in America. Sorry I can’t help any further but I hope I’ve given you a start. With the heel issue you can 3d print a sole and heel by using something other just plastic filament you can use a composite material for a filament instead. I assume you would be at prototyping stage (this is the fun part)
Have fun experimenting

Maybe you could write to them and get some helpful advice and tips for responsible and sustainable shoe making. We need more shoe company like them.

Ever heard of Rawganique?
They make shoes the old-world way and they look pretty sweet. They also use all natural materials and vegan everything. I own a pair of sports shoes from them.
They’re 100% compostable! They are the only ones I’ve found that sales shoes like this.
