Fusing plastic with fabric

Hey! I’m a fashion student currently working on a new project, and while researching I came up with the idea of designing a fabric pattern using melted plastic which I’ll be then pouring on the fabric in a pre-molded forms to achive the look I desire. But I have currently zero experience working with plastic, and I coudn’t seem to find any information about fusing plastic with fabric, except for ironing plastic bags on fabric which is not what I’m going for. So if anyone is willing to share any tips or ideas I would really appreciate that!

Did you see the plastics melting temperature chart on the PP site  https://preciousplastic.com/en/videos/plastics.html ? It shows that the common plastics tend to stay fairly viscous even when they melt. Not sure how pouring them will work. I think you will need to press them in some fashion. Also note that at those temperatures you should have safety gear for the fumes and burn risks.

Good luck

A friend brought up a good point to me.  If you look at your shoes, there is most likely a plastic cover over the end of your shoe lace to make it easier to tie your shoes and prevent the lace from fraying.  This is one actual and practical way to use plastic on clothing.  I don’t know if this is much help but I hope it is something.

Thank youu! Pressing the plastic on fabric is something i hadn’t thought about, that will probably work a lot better!
