I came across this, well dry sounding but extremely informative video that walks you through everything you will need to know about choosing your injection moulding moulds.
Alot of what is discussed is the difference in benefits between an aluminium mould and a 3D printed mould in an aluminium case. This is particularly relevant to us makers since we are unlikely to produce large quantities of moulded items, and so this is a good source for you to understand the benefits and limitations of both.
recently I have sourced a local 3D printing service to use once I have created my CAD file and I hope to put this technique into practice in the near future.
plastikfantastik Thanks for sharing this, really useful to see prices because most companies say “request a quote” which is usually code for “expensive but we don’t want to say how expensive.”
I have the problem of not being in a situation currently where I can start making freely so I am limited to software, drawing, researching and organising. I will direct as much research as possible back towards this chat and if you (or someone in the community!) had the means to actually test our mood technique then that would be epic!!
I saw you have a few friends in your group who are in Australia too, are they local? do you have any space to build and make?
do you know what I always wondered? could you create an aluminium mould by creating a die and pouring molten aluminium from reused cans? THAT would be cool!
