If you use a compression screw, studies have shown that 90% of the heat that melts the plastic comes from the screw, not the heater itself. The shearing and mixing action creates a lot of heat. So if you have a 1.5kw motor, then the majority of the energy transfers to heat
Hello Mark
The extruder you built looks great! And basically, I want to copy your gearbox motor set up, as I’m planing the build of an extruder right now.
I’m wondering if you would mind providing a bit more detail on the size of the gear box you are using? The engineer I’m working with wants to know if your gear box is either a 63 or 50 size (e.g. WJAF 63, or WJAF 50, or NRMV 63 or NRMV 50). If you are not sure, even the dimensions (measurements) of the gear box would help. Are you able to share the gearbox size or dimensions?
Also, if I’m copying your motor and gear box set up, how’s it working? Is there anything you would change on this extruder to improve it’s operation? (could be good to know this before I build it!)
Thanks in advance. Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Craig
Up to 12 maybe but it rates higher than the motor so shouldn’t go that high.
nice!
do you use a VFD / Inverter ? I’d love to know what it uses for amperage
