Precious Plastic Léman

Here you will find the creations and the evolution of our workshop. For the moment nothing very beautiful but like all the first time, it is really existing to melt!

Hey there,

I’m in Geneva and I refuse to throw my plastic for incineration!

Any help in recycling it would be great!

Merci,

Jay

Hello 😊
I m in Lausanne I’d like to know if and how I can come to see your work and workshop ?
thx

What an honor for my light-hearted comment to name a cool frisbee! Hopefully we can play on the beach with it some day 🙂

Great to hear you’re making such progress – always nice to hear what other plastic projects are up to. And the failures are just as important to know about as the good news 😀

Some update.

August :

We made the bike trip to see the sea and collect some plastic.

those who were connected in instagram knew we made a survey for http://www.oceaneye.org to map the pollution of the first river. Video comming soon in our website when we have the result.

septembre :

we continue our journey as usual, we create, we test, we fail, we start again and often it works!!! photo below

Beyond the creation of objects, we particularly like the collaboration with other workspace. It’s hard to summarize all the meetings, but they’re all awesome. We have friends all over the world

Two years ago we were alone in Switzerland. Today the 7th workshop is under construction and every week questions are asked.

Our tool is ready for our little ride.

In August we connect the Geneva lake to the Mediterranean Sea. Just to see and understand.

814 km by bike along the Rhone to meet the PP workshops.

We take this opportunity to test 2 tools.

Precious Collect is an open source littering measure application. We developp with Hammerdirt.

Who I hope if all goes well, maybe shared to the community at the end of 2018.

Second tool comming soon!

Teasing story inspired by @mattia-io 😉

awesome work on the way, congratz @geat!!!
a PP Paris will hopefully open before the end of the year 2018 !

Big Update June 2018 !

The post of @mattia-io on the map made me feel guilty because I am not so active on the forum since the workshop is running. So I’m correcting that 🙂

Our target for Precious Plastic Léman (PPL) :

Raise awareness / Act locally / act globally / Reduce

We chose Lake Geneva, the largest lake in Europe, and the Rhône River to act locally. Our objective is to reduce the quantity of micro plastic that enters into Mediterranean.

On August 13 we leave for 1 month of bicycle to meet the actors and workshop PP along the Rhone (800km).

We will do micro plastic surveys with two tools. One is for test the Hammerdirt.ch application and the second is intended for http://www.oceaneye.org using manta net. The idea is to place a marker on the plastics of Lake Geneva and see if there are any down 500 km further.

Act locally :

We have for objective to build 3 kits intended for eco district and protect workshop in our area. The plan is to open our workshop to designers as soon as we have the finances for the local.

Act globaly :

We try to put a national strategy to assist all construction workshops in the country. For the moment collaborations are underway with PP Zurich and PP Basel (who have started a project with @StamPro from Greece for a workshop in a migrant center) We help as much as we can with our knowledge and contact.

We are also setting up a collaboration with @Johébruno which should be ready by November 2018. We want to build 1 container by the end of the year for a north-south project. (probably a west – est Europ Europe)

We have different pilot projects on fire ! 🙂

Application

https://mylittleplasticfootprint.org

We search solution for make a V2 and more localy. Try it there and spread it, it’s really good.

Application to quantify littering

http://www.hammerdirt.ch/

The solution is sought to establish a protocol for user and disseminate it at the maximum as we can. In Switzerland we have more than 1000 littering readings and the figures allow us to understand many phenomena.

Shot of a Bag:

Reducing at source is also an objective. We have a pilot project with a shop that gave plastic bags to customers (5000 per month) With the PP label, the shop receives a PP sticker and an explanation from our association. We sell biodegradable bags and ask the shop to charge 20.- ct to customers. that brings to 1000 bags a month

MAYDAY MAYDAY : @until2030

Need to have contact with Cyrille until 2030 😉

Check your MP. Thank’s

@andyn
Thank’s – i use PP at 200° and 210°

Yes i will do this thank’s. Come back when i make some try.

Thank you really much for your support !

Cheers

Geat

@geat

Ok, that’s useful feedback, thanks. What type of plastic are you using? And what temperature? I find that for instance, Polypropylene is much more liquid than HDPE and tends to run more freely from the nozzle, especially if the temperature is too high. Also if there are air pockets inside the injector machine, the air can expand and force plastic out of the nozzle even if there is no force on the handle. Perhaps experimenting with a different type of plastic and lower temperature setting might help?

Thank @andyn for the explication

Gravity must not be the same in Switzerland….
Because it does not happen at all at home. I tried your technique but my screw is full of plastic … I made 10 attempts today and 0 successful

but many thank for your answer

Cheers

Unscrew the mould from the nozzle straight after injecting. Try to avoid getting molten plastic in the threads of the mould, best to raise the handle of the injector machine (or have somebody hold it up) so more plastic doesn’t get injected as you remove the mould, then the spinning top will free itself from the mould easily (let cool a short time first).

To clean the nozzle it’s easiest just to flush it through with the new plastic. For a more thorough clean, unscrew it while hot, let cool and then remove the solid plastic plug.

The air escapes between the two halves of the mould, there is enough pressure to force all the air out through a tiny gap.

Hello,

I search a post in the forum who speak about cold plastic in te nozzle.

How you extract your spinning top from the mould per exampl and how you clean the nozzle ? I’m close to broke my mould at each try……

Juste a question about the air who there are inside the mould, where it go when we inject plastic ???

I take any tips because it’s a lot of try for small result at the moment … 🙂

Thank’s

@sonik

I have no underwear, i have the card of Union of Naturist Swiss 😉

More seriously, your are close, i have someone in hamp from Hempage or in bio coton with some label. But i agree, i’m not clean at 100% with my underwear !

So, your underwear is made from lambswool or from recycled PET-Bottles?
Just curious 😉

Creation of the day…

A smooth way to say a message for the clothing i saw on the bazar 😉
