Recyclable skateboard

hello all, I am working on developing a molded skateboard deck. Does anybody have any suggestions as far as durable plastic mixtures for such a project? Only common “waste” plastics. It needs to be able to with stand the pressure in the center and abuse from grinding rails etc. I’m hoping to make one stronger and lighter than the traditional wooden ones. Thanks for all and any opinions.

Hi Russell @radrecycle

Includes an existing experimental skate deck.

I guess you would need to strenghten it with carbon fiber or maybe even recycled nylon ropes.

Looking forward to the testing videos 😉

Thanks Donald, your comment really has given me some inspiration to continue on testing thanks man! Will update on progress.

Well, you are pretty much in virgin territory here, especially if you concider the amount of abuse a board should be able to take…
I would even start considering creating composite boards, with maybe even different layers of plastic types.

But indeed start out simple and test, abuse, break, improve.
And maybe start with longboards?

I’m sure that once you start testing and publishing ‘epic fails’ (and successes) the skate community will also take an interest.
An whole other take on ‘trashing your board’!

I was thinking a larger deposit of HDPE would do the trick?

So they said the board they made was very heavy and did not compare to a traditional board. Your thinking if I add a couple layers of carbon fiber or melt down nylon ropes that it would strengthen enough and still be lightweight? Thanks very much for your reply.
