Scientific paper about compression machine

Hey!
I’m making a scientific research about compression machine ( unfortunatley sitll without the press :(). I’m researching the ways to recycle and reuse plastic waste and household items.
My work started with dedicated learning about plastic, the possible hazards and saftey. Then I searched about the industrial recycling process, recyciling rates in Latvia, EU and USA and then I researched the physical properties of different kind of plastics- the melting temperature under and without pressure, tensile, compressive and impact strength.
I started the experiment with building (but not finishing) the compression machine, whitch I hope to finish till summer( but I need some help). When I finished building, I started to try and melt some plastics.
I tried PET, but with no success.
Then I tried HDPE and LDPE with good and great results. And I tried PP and PS with good results.
So now I finishing my scientific paper on this topic and I hope I can present it in my country or even further- USA.
I really want to do this project in my country. I want to start building some workshops not only with plastic, but metal, 3D printing, woodworking and other possible ways to use our creative ideas, but I can’t find any enthusiastic people around me. Maybe theres someone from Latvia here? #preciousplasticLV
So here is some of my work and experiments (I got the sheets by pressing the melted plastic between two sheets of metal.
Then there is also my work with ironing plastic bags and making packaging form plastic bottles.
Hope you enyoy!
I yet can’t publish my paper until I hand it in. So if you want to read, let me now, but it’s in latvian.

It is possible to use PET, but the temperature range of which it needs to be processed at is very specific, making it quite difficult to work with with the machines accessible to us, good luck with the paper! 🙂

these guy also melting without compressing,

Have you finished the paper? I’d love to see some of the results for pressure, temperature, etc… of various types of plasitc.

I’ve stumbled upon this portal some time ago and currently am looking into the whole ‘reuse plastic, help the environment’ thing.

Would be glad to hear more of your experience with building PP machines and the research you’ve done.

Hello @rudolfsskuja
I couldn’t find many members from Latvia but here are a few of them:

I have a question about moulding plastic with compression and its temperature. If you apply pressure into a piece of plastic at its 80% of molding temperature, does it efectively mold?

I am interested on this in order to know if it can be used in industrial production; if you always work at 80 or 90% of the moulding temperature (but apllying pressure), it will be much more complicated to get a piece burned.

Thank you,
José
