Has anyone shredded soft plastic, like EVA (Crocs), before?
We are trying to figure out if it will gum up the shredder or not before we build it.
Any and all feedback would be appreciated! If anyone is interested in running a little through the machine as a test, contact me via direct email and we can make that happen with a little incentive to do it.

My instinct says it will gum up in the shredder…
But I can do a test this week to see, I think we have some EVA laying around

This material you can not melt because moluculair structure that works like pasta. Once it’s boiled you can never boil it again. So if it’s melted in a shape you can never melt it again. We are trying some different solutions, but that takes some time to figure out and do try outs. I will keep you updated!
the PP machine shreds that type of foam easily. I built a 2x size specifically for it. It did heat up after a hour or use from the friction. Remove any metal buttons first.
Unfortunately attempting to extrude it after shredding results in a useless material.
Maybe you could re-fuse it to make carpet underlay?
If you have any uses for it, let me know. I got thousands of cubic meters of the stuff available.
paper / cc / cd – cover shredders in the 300 $ range should manage this task with ease, not knowing the input. not sure what flake size you need but here are some samples. there are also relative easy hacks on instructables.com

I was wondering if you tried to put a croc or other EVA in the machine and what happened?
Curently I am busy making shoesoles out of EVA for sneakers and we are considering to make our own shredder as well if this works. I see that you guys tried out the mousemats, but we use some different shore EVA, more like the crocs you talked about.

Thanks for the update! We literally just had a design moshpit this morning about what we can do with the shredded material. That’s awesome to hear that it went through the shredder unit with no issues; thank you for testing it.
We finally just had the laser cut portion of our machine built, and will be building the rest over the next couple months. We will keep you posted if we learn more!

Sorry i didnt get back earlier.
so there are two things:
First, i couldn´t find a lot of foam, but i did shred some mouse mats. not sure if it´s EVA foam. but it did go through the machina so that´s a plus.
Second, once it´s shredded there is not a lot of things you can do, you can melt it but then it will release the trapped air and becomes more dense and more solid, so then the benifit of the foam is gone, or you can reuse it as stuffing for something.
