Hi Everyone,
Any suggestions on how to come up with a machine whose main purpose is to shred the soft plastics such as Polyethylene bags (especially the machine has to be movable) ?

hi,
yes, I started working on a ‘scissor’ (like the ones for metal sheet) based approach, manual, using a lever and around 8 blades parallel to each other, meant as table machine to cut shampoo bottles and other house hold waste. basically an attempt to get around a shredder, as part of a small PP starter kit
not sure when I have something presentable, more likely by the end of the April.
@imuh, nothing really to see, i have probably a hundred projects in the shelf waiting for the next parts. the plastic scissor project however just got some steps further, basically heavy duty blades, i have to make the structure to get them in place, and then finally start experimenting. i didn’t really realized this is about bags. for bags i’d possibly build something different. more likely a plunger driven by a pulley (up and down), pushing & cutting the bags into the next process section (barrel), extrusion or whatever. however, if the tip of the plunger would be sharp (internal oval/bevel as hex rotary broacher) it might be able to cut it easily. takes some time to figure the right dimensions/proportions for the barrel, speed, hopper, … interesting though. there are commercial bag cutters, they output flakes around 5cm.
yeah i tried putting PE film through the schredder and my heartbeat rose instantly !
Though it doesn’t require much strength to make it turn into flakes, it’s so thin that it goes between the different metal parts of the schredder…
I usually just put the film directly in the oven to melt, but i’m trying to figure out a way to use PE film into the extrusion machine
Any photo of your system guenther? I’m curious to see how you worked that through
Peace !
@uday : how small you need the flakes ? i was wondering to make the blades adjustable … i have no use for such machine myself perse and so I am happy to take your input
